Robert Maxwell Alhambra, California Title: A Woman Waiting for Flowers Year of Creation: 2004 Glazes: Cone 5 castile blue Clay Body: Cone 5 reduction stoneware Dimensions: Height 17 inches, Width 7.5 inches Artist's Statement: Ceramic vases of antiquity were the artist's canvas. The design and the decoration was a historical expression of the culture at that time. The vase was primarily an ornament. Today, I believe a vase can accomplish two purposes: as an art piece and for holding flowers. My vase tries to interpret a woman's moods. Imagine long stemmed roses evoking tears of joy or a wild bouquet of flowers for sheer happiness. Iris could express solemn dignity without containing flowers my vase could be turned to show one of the moods a woman feels at that time. |
