Artist's Statement: What joy I have with my hands around a lump of clay on a wheel and able to pull that lump into a form, sometimes pushing it to its limits. The piece I've submitted is a two-step (resist-slip and glaze) NAKED RAKU VASE with a scratched in design of a carp and waves. Naked raku allows smoke patterns along with the intended design to penetrate the clay surface, always full of surprises.
