Nancy Pene Upland, California, USA Title: Raku Vase Year of Creation: 2006 Glaze: 80 Gerstley, 10 potash feldspar, 10 borax with black copper oxide, cobalt and copper carbonate at 1800 degrees F propane post fire reduction - paper and sawdust Clay Body: Laguna WC-397 white stoneware raku fired Dimensions: Height 11 inches, 6.5 inches Artist's Statement: With much trial and error over the years, 30 plus, in life, and the studio, I have found that quick firing of raku with a dramatic post fire conclusion is what still holds my attention and interest to date. My glaze application is "old school" lines freehand brushwork, using a sable brush. No tape, wax, stencils or scratch, just a steady hand and lots of patience. Just clay keeping me sane. The work inspires more work. |
