Dawn M. Ferguson Orlando, Florida Title: Untitled Year of Creation: 2004 Glaze: Cone 10 iron glaze, reduction fired Clay Body: Stoneware Dimensions: Height 11.25 inches, Width 8 inches Artist's Statement: There's an old joke that goes: A potter won a million dollars and when asked what he would do with the money he said "I guess I'll just make pots until the money runs out." I love that joke because it taps into the obsession one has with clay. I make pots because I have to, I hunger for it and my inspiration comes from everywhere and everything. My interests are as varied as my pottery and I love it that way. Whether I work in stoneware, porcelain or iron heavy red clay, I am happy to examine the interaction each have with their appropriate glazes and firing methods. The more I learn, the more I want to explore the boundaries. My pottery is mostly functional in nature. I want people to use the pieces I create and I want those pieces to be the perfect marriage of function and form. If it doesn't work, then it matter not how this "information junkie" pushes the limits of what I know. Never stop learning, never stop doing, make great pots.
