Steven Mortz Tacoma, Washington Title: Eight Face Vase Year of Creation: 2005 Glaze: Mason stain underglaze, Amaco arroyo white opaque glaze and clear glaze Clay Body: Buff sculpture clay fired to cone 05 bisque then 04, 05 Dimensions: Height 8.25 inches, Width 8 inches Artist's Statement: I find endless inspiration in the human form and also in its use in art over history-prehistory. I don't often work in the vase form (I'm a sculptor), but I found this piece I hadn't finished from 1999 and decided it would be a nice item to focus on glazes. Both the glaze and faces on this piece remind me of the Ancient Roman Mosaic Murals. I am very happy with the way it turned out.
