Joe Bruhin Fox, Arkansas Title: Vase Year of Creation: 2005 Glaze: Wood fired in an Anagama kiln Clay Body: Stoneware Dimensions: Height 13.5 inches, Width 5.5 inches Artist's Statement: Making pottery for me is a vehicle for spiritual growth. By opening myself and allowing the spirit to enter and acting spontaneously, pots are born. The aim is to communicate with the eventual user producing an aesthetic experience which I hope will improve the quality of his or her life. Wood firing is the best way for me to achieve these goals. As too much control removes spirit, the element of chance here becomes a positive. By being in harmony with the elements and the forces of nature, the pot becomes a sacrificial offering surrendered to the flames and reborn, it aspires toward the ideals of timeless beauty and magic.
