Chris Lively Dublin, Virginia, USA Title: Slip Vase Year of Creation: 2012 Glaze: Cone 6 electric Clay Body: Porcelain Dimensions: Height 14 inches, Width 9 inches Artist's Statement: I am a maker of objects. These objects can be enjoyed in daily routine or for visual enjoyment. Clay is the material I choose to make these objects. For me, it is knowledge of materials, preparation and ultimately chance that creates a beautiful work of art. As an artist, I want my work to be fluid and unpredictable. To put it simply the art is in the unexpected. The special ways the glaze react or change, the way slip might fall or the beauty in an unexpected drip are all a mystery to me. It is this that keeps me loving what I do and working to pursue an even more beautiful and unexpected design. I create my surfaces to act in combination with my glazes for spectacular, unexpected results. When applying glaze I use many layers of glaze that react with one another to create those unpredictable results that truly make my pottery a work of art. |
