Charles Fach Galena, Illinois, USA Title: Zinnia Vase Year of Creation: 2010 Glaze: Semi-transparent matt over iron oxide Clay Body: Porcelain Dimensions: Height 13 inches, Width 5.75 inches Artist's Statement: Speaking to the vase shown in the photographs; although the form is a classic vase form my intent was to articulate an original overall surface with a rhythmical, twisting, plunging, interlocking flower motif expressing some of the joy there is in observing flowers, specifically zinnias. This was accomplished by carving a low relief into a handthrown vase, bisquing the vase then making a plaster mold and casting reproductions from the mold. The vase is slip cast porcelain with iron oxide wash cleaning off the high points, then glazed with a semi-transparent matt glaze and fired to cone 10. |
