Joshua Freeman Orlando, Florida, USA Title: Boot in the Mud Year of Creation: 2009 Glaze: Wood fired Clay Body: Stoneware Dimensions: Height 9 inches, Width 5 inches Artist's Statement: At the core of human nature we find communication, procreation, and demarcation. With the two former, progress is made possible. With the latter we create conflict, commerce and segregation. Living in the overwhelming social amalgam that we proudly call America is, to say the least, inspiring. My reaction to this social environment is to quietly observe, humbly scrutinize and fervently question our lifestyles through the practice of art. My work begins to touch on the way humans interact: how we express ourselves, how we live, and how and what we choose to worship. My intention is to transport the viewer to a place beyond the banal noise that surround urban and suburban life that is sensory, familiar, yet unexpected. |
