Melvin H. Casper (1916-2002)
Marked:
Incised Merritt Island Potter, as shown.
Condition:
No chips, cracks, hairlines or repairs.
Dimensions: 8.125"h x 4"w
Notes:
Melvin Casper studied at the Chicago Art Institute, where he was a student of Eugene Deutch. In the 1930's, he founded the Merritt Island Pottery with his mother Peggy Jamieson. His forms are known for their outstanding drip and flambe type glazes, where he shows the influence of his mentor Deutch. The vase I offer here is a weighted form with an outstanding assortment of glazes used. This pot is larger than most found, so this is a somewhat rare find for the serious studio collector, especially from the Seminole State of Florida. Don't miss!!!!!
