Priya Huffman Boulder, Colorado, USA Title: Autumn Delta Year of Creation: 2010 Glaze: Interior tenmoku glaze (David Beumee) with exterior yellow ash (Val Cushing) and rutile (David Beumee) Clay Body: Porcelain Dimensions: Height 7.5 inches, Width 4.5 inches Artist's Statement: A good vase is like a finger pointing to the moon, not to itself. It would be presumptuous to compete with the beauty and natural wonder of flowers. A vase is a vessel that points to the glory of the natural world, content to be the background to that which is contained within. Yet, in the dead of winter, when fresh blooms are scarce, a vase needs to hold its own, to be grand enough to stand proudly alone, calling quiet attention and delight, as well as a reminder of what again may be. That is the delicate balance foremost in my considerations when I make vases. |
