Astrid Kruse Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada Title: Illusion Year of Creation: 2010 Glaze: Cone 10 soda fired Clay Body: Porcelain Dimensions: Height 8.25 inches, Width 6 inches Artist's Statement: Astrid Kruse has spent her life in the far north of Canada. Yellowknife has inspired her ceramic work with the amazing aurora borealis, the snow, the midnight sun and how the very landscape and sky seem to reach out to touch each other. Her most recent work explores and experiments with the soda and salt firing techniques. The vessels are marked while throwing and then without touching the outside are expanded to create the sweeping motion that ripple in the clay that can be witnessed in our dark northern skies when the aurora is dancing. |
