Charade Honey Fitzroy, Waikato, New Zealand Title: Huia Year of Creation: 2009 Glaze: Anagama slips Clay Body: White stoneware Dimensions: Height 16.54 inches, Width 3.54 inches Artist's Statement: The Huia is an extinct bird from New Zealand. At the time, my focus was on endangered or extinct species. The way this birds form wrap's around the vase shape appeals to me. These vases are usually made in pairs, as Huia mate for life. The Europeans hunted them to extinction for their feathers. So I have only one. |
