Artist's Statement: In this series of vases, I have been exploring the use of laser print decals positioned on the bare clay surface. My piece is wheel thrown in translucent porcelian with thin walls to allow the capture of light, and glimpses of the images from the inside. The form is kept minimal to highlight the busy surface pattern. Images are a combination of antique botanical drawings and images developed from photos and scans, all with links to local flora and fauna. Light washes of water soluble colorants provide subtle backdrops to the images and integrate images with form.
