Rosemary Molesworth Shelburne, Ontario, Canada Title: From Earth To Sky Rattle Vessel Year of Creation: 2009 Glaze: None Clay Body: Cone 6 black clay with white slip Dimensions: Height 9.25 inches, Width 2.25 inches Artist's Statement: From Earth to Sky is one of a series of stone/rock pieces with rectangular openings. The openings give another dimension to the piece - that of a mysterious inner space glimpsed, but not clearly visible. As the dreaming man lies on the earth, with a bird in his hands, the 3 holes above him indicate an escape into the sky. By pushing the clay rectangles into the pot, a small rattle noise is created when the piece is moved. Linseed oil gives a soft sheen to the unglazed surface of the piece & brings up the colour of subtle organic discolourations inherent in the surface. This pot is a nonfunctional vessel for dried flowers, dreams & memories. |
