Title: Black and White Vase with Base and Handbuilt Neck

Year of Creation: 2008

Glaze: Black matte glaze

Clay Body: Porcelain

Dimensions: Height 14.5 inches, Width 9 inches

Artist's Statement: This vase form is assembled from 3 parts. The body is a thrown elliptical shape placed sideways on a thrown base. A hand built neck is then applied to the body.

The biomorphic poured shapes of the black matte glaze tie together the three sections of the piece. The contrast of the white porcelain with the black glaze is further enhanced by the contrast of the gestural hand built neck and the crisply thrown body and base.
