Judy Weeden Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, Canada Title: Fawn Lily Year of Creation: 2008 Glaze: Slip and terra sigillata outside, felspathic glaze inside, cone 10 Clay Body: White stoneware Dimensions: Height 13 inches, Width 12 inches Artist's Statement: After leaving a research and teaching career, I have spent 36 years of loving and struggling with the clay medium. My first mentors were steeped in Bauhaus tradition. But most of my understanding of clay and my own voice for it has come through daily work in the studio. My primary goal is to create work that synthesizes beauty and harmony both in a functional and decorative context. My vessels span a broad range of forming methods----thrown, altered, slab, slumped, humped----whatever it takes to achieve the desired form. Surface decoration with slip-carved designs is my personal signature. I hope my pots speak for themselves with clarity and independence. |
