VIVI Ginsberg Smith Harvard, Illinois, USA Title: What Frog? I Year of Creation: 2008 Glaze: Clear cone 6 oxidation Clay Body: Porcelain and stoneware Dimensions: Height 9.5 inches, Width 7 inches Artist's Statement: What Frog? I emerged from my fascination with flower frogs used for making floral arrangements. I'm drawn to the sculptural qualities of objects used in every day life. These seemingly ordinary objects often are extraordinary sculptural forms. Usually, a floral frog is placed in the bottom of a vase and the stems of the flowers positioned in the holes of the floral frog. In What Frog? I I've combined the vase and the floral frog together as one sculptural form. The frog occupies the top of the vase. The upright geometric forms further reinforce the idea of the frog in supporting flowers and greenery. |
