Yoko Sekino-Bové Washington, Pennsylvania Title: Touch Year of Creation: 2007 Glaze: Clear glaze plus colorants Clay Body: Cone 6 porcelain Dimensions: Height 14 inches, Width 6 inches Artist's Statement: My ceramic work tends to have a theme in communication. This is one of them. Instead of directly expressing emotions in the human figure to portray the communication issues we have, I have chosen plants and animals to deliver subtle, quiet gestures that carry emotions. There are many moments and feelings that can be expressed only in symbols and metaphors. Capturing them into a world is as if picking up wild flowers for making a bouquet: a mixture of random choices and selective chaos. The form is borrowed from a traditional shape to let the viewers connect to the work easily and to invite an intimate relationship beyond the function.
