Sam Scott Shoreline, Washington Title: Black & White Vase with Handbuilt Neck Year of Creation: 2006 Glaze: Black matte glaze Clay Body: Porcelain Dimensions: Height 11.75 inches, Width 6.5 inches Artist's Statement: In this vase form, I am combining the crisp symmetry of the thrown body with gestural fabric like quality of the neck. The contrast of these two aspects is connected and enhanced by the biomorphic black shapes of the poured glaze on the white porcelain surface. The full body and organic neck give a sense of swelling and a skin like texture that the invites the viewer to make a tactile and visual connection.
