Meech Miyagi Auburn, California Title: Natural Conclusion Year of Creation: 2006 Glaze: Outside transparent crackle, amber cascade, copper adventurine, copper river, blade Mayco cascade, bark, clear cascade: inside transparent crackle, amber ash, nightsky and amber, white, clear and black cascade Clay Body: Claymaker glacia porcelain fired to cone 6 Dimensions: Height 10 inches, Width 10.5 inches Artist's Statement: Like many people, I am inspired by nature and try to reflect a natural simplicity in my work. This piece is my interpretation of the cycle of vegetation. It is my opinion that, in nature, forms or shapes are repeated over a wide range of natural structures. The top of this piece represents water (oceans and rain), heat energy (sun, firelight) as well as one result: leaves. The blues on the inside mix with reds and golds as the move down the vase to brown (earth). Two "seeds" are on the surface at the bottom if you look inside. One one side of the vase the glaze moves in an upward pattern to symbolize growth, the colors are also more vibrant. The top has a subtle sparkle of dark green on the outside and light green inside as with a leaf, on the other side, the glaze moves downward like dormancy and death the completion of the cycle.
