Joe and Shiho Winter Reno, Nevada, USA Title: New Year's Sunrise Year of Creation: 2012 Glaze: Raku glaze Clay Body: Laguna WSO-Big White Mix Dimensions: Height 26 inches, Width 17 inches Artist's Statement: This is a collaboration piece in the series of work I am making with Shiho. I throw and fire and Shiho does the design and decorating. The crane is a symbol of the New Year. The crane with the sun represents the hopes and wishes that come with the first sunrise of the New Year. The crane is also a symbol of longevity, good fortune, and fidelity. We enjoy the collaboration process. The Raku firing works well with the illustration. |
