Sam Scott Shoreline, Washington, USA Title: Wood Fired Slab Built Vase Year of Creation: 2012 Glaze: Natural wood ash from the firing Clay Body: Stoneware Dimensions: Height 16 inches, Width 3.5 inches Artist's Statement: This vase is slab built with a rippled, creased and textured neck contrasting with the planar body. The naturalistic surface decoration is a place for the flow of ash to accumulate during the firing process. The gestural shape of the neck, the rhythmic flow of the impressed decoration and the random effect of the wood ash coalesce into a natural and spontaneous merging of form, surface and firing. |
