Artist's Statement: I work with copper matte raku slips and glazes, on sculptural slab built forms. These are primarily and loosely based on vessels and sculptural objects. The process of firing copper matte raku is hazardous and extremely erratic. It is prone to internal and external factors--inside and outside the kiln. Exact temperature, the outside temperature on the day of the firing all play their part! These factors determine success or failure! I was however - very proud of this example - now in a private collection.
