Bruce Gholson Seagrove, North Carolina, USA Title: Fossil Fish Year of Creation: 2010 Glaze: Thin translucent clear glaze, copper rich molybdenum glazed top Clay Body: Red stoneware with slip trailed fossil fish Dimensions: Height 13 inches, Width 6 inches Artist's Statement: The piece that I have selected to show for the Vasefinder International 2013 exhibition is thrown from a red stoneware clay. A copper saturated molybdenum crystalline glaze is applied at the top flowing downward and breaks from a deep matte grey to gold. The fossil image is hand drawn by slip trailing and covered with a thin translucent glaze surface that reveals the texture of the red clay behind it. I have been experimenting and refining results for this family of glazes since the early 1990's. Smooth flowing curves seem to provide the best ground to showcase the qualities of this group of glazes. |
