Veena Raghavan Falls Church, Virginia, USA Title: Stormy Weather Year of Creation: 2012 Glaze: Shino Clay Body: Porcelain Dimensions: Height 6.5 inches, Width 4 inches Artist's Statement: My work in clay is a reflection of everything that has been a part of my life. It is a fusion of all the cultures I have experienced, of my day to day living, of my dreams, and the images that live in my mind. I make pieces that can be placed on the table, that can be cradled in your hand, that can be put to your lips, and that will hold the food that sustains you. Thus, these pieces enter your everyday existence and contribute to your joy of living. I also create works of art that can adorn, that have no functional value except to beautify. They can express peace, laughter, longing, passion, appealing to all of your emotions and senses. I hope people will be drawn to reach out and caress the objects I make, not just through the visual but also through touch. |
