Artist's Statement: Of all the arts, pottery is the most connected to and dependent on the physical nature of our planet. My work explores the link between ceramics, geology and place, making pieces entirely from materials collected personally at the specific sites and that illustrate the qualities inherent in these materials. The rocks and clays that make up these pieces are unrefined, impure and therefore unpredictable. I have been able to produce truly exceptional qualities that would be impossible to achieve in any other way.
