Hannah McAndrew Castle Douglas, Scotland, United Kingdom Title: Wood Fired OOOH Man Year of Creation: 2012 Glaze: Rich honey glaze liner Clay Body: Red earthenware Dimensions: Height 11.81 inches, Width 5.51 inches Artist's Statement: I make pots with a purpose, all made in a rich red terracotta. I am inspired and excited by the strong tradition of British slipware. In most of my work decoration is key to what I do, trailed slips, brush slips & sgraffito. Now firing in my wood fired kiln I have a further connection to my pots that I don't get from the electric kiln. The piece submitted for Vasefinder are placed around the entrance to the chamber and used to form part of the bag wall so the naked clay receives the full brunt of the flame. |
