Sam Scott Shoreline, Washington, USA Title: Raku Vase with Handles Year of Creation: 2010 Glaze: Copper raku glazes Clay Body: Artist's stoneware Dimensions: Height 15 inches, Width 10 inches Artist's Statement: I work primarily in porcelain at high temperatures. One technique I use is to contrast a black matte glaze with the white porcelain surface. I pour the glaze on in patterns getting a very graphic quality to the decoration. It was interesting using this technique with matte and glossy copper glazes, with the raku process. The biomorphic shapes of the poured glazes give a vertical tension in contrast to the smoked raw clay. |
