Artist's Statement: Clay has been my constant companion for over 37 years. We get along. We have a rapport, mutual respect and a strong enduring relationship. We communicate. I know the good clay from the bad. I know how hard the clay has to be or how soft depending on what needs to be accomplished. I have learned the nuances, when to finesse, to touch tenderly or when to really push and demand more than it wants to give. For my devotion, this simple, abundant, remarkable material has given me my livelihood, a strong sense of self and a body of work that will continue to touch lives long after I have fired my last piece.
